A comparison of three load-velocity based methods to estimate maximum overhead press performance in weightlifters

This study aimed to evaluate whether lifting velocity can be used estimate the overhead press one repetition maximum (1RM) and explore differences in accuracy of 1RM between three velocity-based methods. Twenty-seven weightlifters (16 men 11 women) participated. The first session was test 1RM. second consisted an incremental loading during press. mean registered using a transducer attached barbell. A 1-way repeated-measures analysis variance (ANOVA) with Bonferroni post hoc corrections applied absolute actual predicted 1RMs. Raw 95% limits agreement ordinary least-products regressions were concurrent validity prediction methods respect ANOVA did not reveal significant for ( F = 3.2, p .073). errors moderate Multiple-Point (6.1 ± 3.7%), Two-Point 45−75 (8.6 6.2%), 45−90 (5.7 4.0%). showed that all underestimated (1.0–2.2 kg), but failed show fixed or proportional bias. These results suggest might viable tools predict weightlifters, practitioners are encouraged use direct more accurate prescription training loads.
